BENEFITS OF EATING BEANS

Beans are even better for you than you may realize:
1. Beans, peas and lentils contain soluble fiber, which has been shown to help lower total cholesterol and decrease "bad" LDL cholesterol. In fact, beans contain twice as much fiber as most other vegetables, so they not only help fill us up, but also, yes, keep us regular!

2. Studies also suggest that beans may help reduce the risk of heart disease, colorectal cancer and diabetes.

3. In particular, look for kidney, red, black and pinto beans—these are the antioxidant superstars, especially high in disease-fighting compounds.

For the greatest health benefits, try to eat three cups of beans every week. Throw beans into your salads or soups, or cook them up. No matter how you eat them, beans do a body good!
